Ten threats to global health in 2019

Posted: at 3:43 am

Measles, for example, has seen a 30% increase in cases globally. The reasons for this rise are complex, and not all of these cases are due to vaccine hesitancy. However, some countries that were close to eliminating the disease have seen a resurgence.

The reasons why people choose not to vaccinate are complex; a vaccines advisory group to WHO identified complacency, inconvenience in accessing vaccines, and lack of confidence are key reasons underlying hesitancy. Health workers, especially those in communities, remain the most trusted advisor and influencer of vaccination decisions, and they must be supported to provide trusted, credible information on vaccines.

In 2019, WHO will ramp up work to eliminate cervical cancer worldwide by increasing coverage of the HPV vaccine, among other interventions. 2019 may also be the year when transmission of wild poliovirus is stopped in Afghanistan and Pakistan. Last year, less than 30 cases were reported in both countries. WHO and partners are committed to supporting these countries to vaccinate every last child to eradicate this crippling disease for good.

Integrative medicine – Mayo Clinic

Posted: October 11, 2019 at 4:44 pm

Complementary and alternative medicine (CAM) is the popular name for health care practices that traditionally have not been part of conventional medicine. In many cases, as evidence of efficacy and safety grows, these therapies are being combined with conventional medicine.

Thus, the term alternative has been dropped and replaced with newer terms, such as complementary and integrative medicine, integrative medicine and health, or just integrative medicine.

Integrative medicine can help people with cancer, persistent pain, chronic fatigue, fibromyalgia and many other conditions better manage their symptoms and improve their quality of life by reducing fatigue, pain and anxiety. Examples of common practices include:

The treatments promoted in integrative medicine are not substitutes for conventional medical care. They should be used in concert with standard medical treatment.

Certain therapies and products are not recommended at all or not recommended for certain conditions or people. The National Center for Complementary and Integrative Health is a good tool for researching a therapy you're considering. It's also important to talk with your health care provider before trying something new.

Pet-friendly holistic health care – WebMD

Posted: October 10, 2019 at 5:50 pm

From the WebMD Archives

Have you made any healthy lifestyle changes lately? Maybe youve switched your diet, or started practicing yoga, going to the chiropractor, or getting acupuncture treatments.

Might these same practices keep your pet in better health, too?

More veterinarians than ever are practicing holistic medicine today. Holistic vets look at a pet's overall health, and use traditional and alternative therapies. They rely on lab tests and prescription drugs, but also on acupuncture, massage, and herbal remedies to keep pets healthy. They encourage changes in pets' diets and lifestyles to help ward off illnesses like obesity, arthritis, diabetes, and cancer.

As a doctor, I want any tool that's going to work. Having more tools in my tool kit has made a huge difference, says Barbara Royal, DVM, president of the American Holistic Veterinary Medical Association.

Here are some of the alternative treatments available for your dog or cat:

A certified acupuncturist inserts thin needles in specific points of the body to relieve pain and pressure throughout your pet's body. Pets with back pain, arthritis, muscle spasms, a limp, or other problems may benefit from this treatment.

Although acupuncture has been around for 5,000 years, only in the last 10 to 20 years has the scientific community been able to see why this works, says Claude D. Grosjean, a small animal veterinarian who practices holistic medicine in Southampton, NY. There's very good research, a lot of it done in China.

Chiropractors move the bones in the spine and other parts of the body to relieve pain. Pets with neck or back problems can benefit from these treatments, just like people do. But for pets, you wont hear cracking. There's not as much aggressive force used. It's a gentle procedure, and it can make a great difference on the alignment of the spine, Royal says.

Massage can improve blood flow, reduce swelling, and help with anxiety issues. Pets like it, says Grosjean, who practices Tui-Na, a traditional Chinese form of massage.

It's a powerful therapy tool, Royal says, but you need someone trained in animal massage -- that's what makes the difference.

The pleasant scents of natural oils can help pets relieve stress.

Scent is so important in an animal's life, Royal says. It can change the way your brain functions, whether you're feeling alarm or discomfort.

Because pets have a more sensitive sense of smell, ask your veterinarian for advice before trying aromatherapy.

Pets can smell over 20 times better than we can, Royal says. You don't need the whole room to smell like lavender to calm them down; you don't want to overwhelm them.

A better diet can improve overall health, reduce inflammation and ease symptoms of chronic diseases like arthritis.

Because dogs and cats are carnivores, the higher the protein percentage they take in, the better. Carbohydrate-rich kibble food usually isn't best for their diets. Royal recommends avoiding pet food containing corn, wheat, soy, or peanut butter. Once you eliminate those, you're in a better tier of nutrition, she says. Talk to your vet before making a food change, though.

Herbs can help calm pets. Some holistic vets prescribe the herbs chamomile, kava, or valerian to soothe animals. They may recommend combinations of 5 to 20 herbs that are made specifically for your pet.

It's not a good idea to just go on the Internet, find an herbal formula, and give it to your pet, Grosjean says. You choose the wrong formula, you're going to make the situation a lot worse.

Youre probably here because youve told so many different doctors that youre tired, only to hear that theres nothing wrong with you, yet you continue to feel off. You are constantly exhausted and dependent on caffeine just to make it through the day. You are stressed to the max, which sometimes interrupts your sleep leaving you even more tired.

Because youve been running on empty, your weight is harder to maintain, you feel anxious and moody, and you really wish you could get back to feeling like your old self, but you hardly remember what that was like at this point.

Deep down, you know that there is a healthier version of you in there somewhere: someone who is energetic, radiant, powerful, and ready to conquer the world (or maybe just Mondays).

You know that the fatigue, joint pain, insomnia, weight gain, sugar cravings, or depression you are experiencing is your body warning you that its time to make a change. Youre ready to transform your life and you know that starts with your physical, mental, and emotional health.

We dont just to throw Band-Aids on their symptoms, but rather evaluate and discover the root cause of their ailments and correct their imbalances from the inside out. Rather than just trading out pharmaceuticals for their herbal counterparts to make you feel slightly better, our mission is to truly heal from the core so that you not only experience quick relief, but you also have a blueprint for a balanced, healthy life that you can implement for years to come.

Complementary & Integrative Health | Anxiety and Depression …

Posted: at 5:49 pm

There isgrowing scientific evidence about complementary and integrated health treatments. Interest in complimentary and alternative medicine, or CAM, is growing as consumers and health care professionals search for additional ways to treat anxiety, depression, and other mental health disorders.

Complementary medicine is used along with conventional medicine. An example is in-home treatment to help modify symptoms of panic attacks. Alternative medicine can include a special diet to treat cancer instead of undergoing surgery, radiation, or chemotherapy recommended by a medical doctor.

Before beginning CAM or any type of treatment, talk to your mental health provider or primary care doctor. Visit theNIH National Center for Complementary and Integrative Health "Know the Science" website page.

The following complementary and integrative health practices may beused to help treat anxiety and depressive disorders. We advise that you speak with your primary physician and/or mental health provider before selecting any complementary treatment:

What is Holistic Dentistry? | The Center For Natural Dentistry

Posted: at 5:49 pm

As an holistic dentist (and former traditional dentist and dental school professor) I frequently get asked about the differences between traditional and holistic dentistry. While there are a few distinct differences that categorize dentists and dental practices into one group or the other, the truth is that every dentist is different and to place one dentist in the holistic group and another in the traditional group is not a good method of segmentation.

Holistic Dentistry Focuses on Whole-Body Wellness that Starts with the Mouth

Before we can get into depth on the differences, I think its important to look at what the word holistic really means. The word holistic is not a reflection of the practices and techniques used by the dentist, but of an overall philosophy of the role of oral care. The word itself comes from wholistic meaning the whole. Truly holistic dentists will educate patients on the importance of overall health and how dentistry can play a role in the overall health.

All dentists to some extent see the importance of the mouth in the overall health of an individual. For instance, studies have concluded a link between gum disease and heart health, diabetes, and pregnancies. However, many dentists are not trained in the long term effects of what dentistry does (or could possibly do) to the whole body. Hence the reason the field of holistic dentistry was formed.

Truly holistic dentists are dentists who perform dentistry that is good for the body as well as the teeth and gums.

There are dentists who call themselves holistic (for marketing or differentiation reasons) but the only thing holistic about them is that they dont place mercury fillings. On the flip-side, there are conventional dentist who perform complex, comprehensive dentistry that involves more than the teeth and gums it involves the face, head, neck. the whole body hence the wholistic nature of what they do, yet they dont call themselves holistic. To say that a dentist is one or the other is not always accurate.

At The Center for Natural Dentistry, we have put emphasis on a more natural or holistic approach to dentistry. But what does this mean? What are the nuts and bolts of the differences between truly holistic dental practices and more traditional dental practices? What are the topical differences?

When most people think of holistic and natural dentistry, they think of mercury fillings. But there are many more issues that divide most traditional and holistic dental practices. (Please keep in mind that many traditional dentists practice under the philosophies of the holistic side and vice-versa. This is why labels dont work. But for simplicitys sake, Ive divided the issues below.)

Mercury Fillings:Traditional dentistry espouses the longevity of mercury amalgam fillings and the fact that insurance will typically cover the cost of placement. They will also point to the ADA and FDAs statements that the mercury in the fillings is stabilized and safe, leaking only tiny amounts of mercury. They are also typically easier for the dentist to place than composite fillings.

Holistic dentists understand that mercury is a toxin and even small amounts are too great a risk to the body and your overall health. While amalgam fillings last longer than composites, they put extreme pressure on the tooth and often cause weakening of the tooth meaning that the filling may outlast the tooth it was placed in. Truly holistic dentists do not place mercury and meet or exceed safety guidelines for removal.

Root Canals (or Root Canal Therapy):Most traditional dentists will recommend root canal therapy as a means to save a tooth that has suffered severe decay and has already or will soon die completely. They argue that the procedure has been done for centuries and has been proven safe and effective as a means to keep a natural tooth.

Holistic dentists point to the research that says root canal therapy cannot be effective unless the canal is 100% sterilized and cleaned of bacteria, and the repeated studies have shown that it is 100% impossible to completely sterilize the canal. They also argue that the chemicals used for sterilization are toxic (formaldehyde is one such chemical) and that the bacteria left in the canal can lead to adverse health affects down the road, including breast cancer, heart disease, and more. Holistic dentists typically do not recommend root canals.

Fluoride:Traditional dentists are in favor of using fluoride in both a topical and ingested form. They argue in favor of fluoridating water supplies and recommend fluoride drops for infants. They point to research showing a decrease in cavity rates in areas where the water is fluoridated.

Holistic dentists typically argue against any form of ingested fluoride, arguing that research has linked ingested fluoride to cancer and various bone problems while other research has shown no benefit to the teeth from ingested fluoride. They also argue that too much fluoride can cause fluorosis and that fluoridating public water supplies is forced medication of the general public. Some holistic dentists are for topical fluoride and some are against it.

Biocompatibility of Dental Materials:Most traditional dentists dont believe in biocompatibility testing and will not test you to see if the materials they use will cause a reaction when placed in your body. Most traditional dentists do not explain the differences between different composite filling materials nor do they give you a choice on which materials will be used for your cavity.

Holistic dentists believe that what goes into your mouth can affect your entire body and many have on-site equipment to test for biocompatibility of the materials they use. Most holistic dentists use a variety of different composite filling materials as well as different materials for other procedures (bridges, crowns, etc.).

The above is a partial, topical list of some of the philosophical differences between traditional and holistic dentists. The fact remains that many traditional dentists will fall onto the side of holistic dentists in the above instances, and vice-versa. The differences between the two arent necessarily topical in nature (although topical differences are easy for us to understand, and easy to pinpoint, so they make a tidy way to differentiate).

The true differences between holistic dentistry and traditional dentistry is philosophical: traditional dentistry is the practice of treating the symptoms in the teeth and gums and attempting to prevent such problems from reoccurring. Holistic dentistry is the practice of treating the underlying problems that cause symptoms in the mouth, attempting to eliminate those problems (and, hence, preventing the symptoms from reoccurring) while ensuring the work done in the mouth does not have an adverse affect on your overall health.

So, if the differences are philosophical how do you find a dentist thats right for you a dentist whose philosophies match your own? Ask good questions! Ask questions such as How do you determine which type of filling is right for me? and If I get cavities in one area of my mouth, can you tell me why? If you want a truly holistic dentist, their answers will revolve around your entire body and he/she will discuss the role your oral health plays in your overall health. If you want a traditional dentist, look for answers that talk more about the topical symptoms and ask questions about cost/benefit and insurance coverage.

You always have the right to ask questions and know whats going on. You never have to implicitly your dentist. While most dentists are good people who want to look out for your best interests, the fact remains that no two people have the same best interests and their are alternatives out there. Its more than just your right to ask questions of your medical and dental advisers, its your duty. It is, after all, YOUR health were talking about.

Holistic Medicine – How To Heal ANYTHING – Ancient Wisdom …

Posted: October 6, 2019 at 9:41 am

Holistic Medicine has been a part of humanity for thousands of years. Modern medicine, based in corporate greed, was very successful in convincing society that holistic practices such as Ayurveda, Acupuncture and Breath Work were not real forms of medicine since they couldnt provide any evidence.

Now we know that scientific proof can be very easily fabricated and much of this mainstream evidence has actually been funded by corporate Pharma. For example, a giant company that creates synthetic marijuana supplements was one of the biggest funders for the opposition of cannabis legalization in the United States. Talk about hypocrisy.

In this article we will discuss:

1) The basic wisdom behind Holistic Medicine.2) Where to find the CURE3) How to heal anything naturally4) The steps to awaken Self Healing and Natural Supplements to super charge the process5) How immortality could actually be possible and why this is important to you6) The best Holistic Coaching available today to accelerate your healing

Modern medicine believes that Health is the absence of disease. Ancient Indian medicine believes that a healthy individual is a person exited to go to work and is also exited for compassion.

Holistic Methods such as Ayurveda understands and accepts that living organisms such as virus, germs and bacteria are actually living inside all of us all the time. And thats totally ok. As long as you wake up happy and exited about your day, youre healthy.

Nowadays there are so many stories of people healing conditions that modern medicine thought were incurable that Holistic Medicine cannot longer be ignored.

For some decades now, passionate scientists dedicated to seeking the truth have been finding real evidence of things that ancient wisdom has claimed for thousands of years. So much that they are even considering the idea of imortality as actually plausible.

I will explain to you, in this article, fully backed by science, how immortality could actually be possible. And more important, how you can use this knowledge to heal yourself.

Holistic Medicine is based around the idea that the body knows exactly how to heal itself. Well, anyone who has healed incurable conditions such as Ulcerative Colitis or even Cancer will tell you a similar story.

They paid attention to their diet and changed their attitude towards their health. In some cases natural supplements are a great ally, however it all starts with the mind.

Modern medicine says that if you have a head ache, you should take a pill.

Holistic Medicine however will look at the patients life to find the source of the head ache.Instead of prescribing a pill, by knowing the patient, it could be very clear that the person with the head ache just had a fight with their spouse. They should simply take a nap, find an agreement with their partner and the head ache will go away.

For example, those that suffer from chronic fatigue might wonder why am I so tired if I slept for so long. Well, its been found that many factors can affect a persons deep sleep, which is where the regeneration of the body happens, like too much Fats in diet, not enough physical activity, nicotine and caffeine, too much sugarall of these elements can have an effect in a persons energy state.

You might think youre depressed, but maybe youre just eating too much sugar. You might be anxious all the time, but maybe youre just breathing wrong.

The answer can be really simple. If youre eating healthy and balanced meals, drinking lots of water and have a happy life, your immune system is very likely to be strong and can protect you from most things.

My mom survived cancer. Her story has all the elements that survivors of chronic diseases have in common.

She says that when she was diagnosed with cancer, immediately she took care of her diet. Then, throughout all of her treatments, every pill she took, every conversation she had, etc etc, she kept telling herself this is healing methis is healing me. She tells me that every single day she would keep herself happy, positive, joyful and constantly, consciously held on to the idea that everything she did was healing her.

This is an example of convincing yourself of something as though is real. Which is the number one rule of manifesting and also the number one rule of healing.

The Renegade Pharmacist, Niraj Naik, is another amazing example of self healing. Not only was he diagnosed with an incurable condition, Ulcerative Colitis, but he was a community pharmacist. His job was to help people feel better, yet science couldnt help him. He was faced with the decision to have his colon removed. Read his story here.

With time, he was able to heal himself through Holistic Medicine. He says that music and meditation played a huge role in his recovery which makes sense because by simply relaxing and listening to music we enjoy, we are entering a state of extreme relaxation.

When you simply allow your body to relax, and by feeding it good, healthy food, youre giving your body the space and time it needs to enter Self Healing more.

ActuallySelf Healing is your bodys natural state.

In our modern world, we are constantly stressed out. Its somehow normal. This on going stress expresses itself in illness. By looking at the patients life, we can identify the source of stress and thus figure out a plan to manage the condition, and get the person back to waking up exited to start the day.

The Heart Math institute has been doing research for many years on this topic and they have concluded that to trigger self healing, the best way to go about it is by entering a state called Heart Coherence.

Its been proven that the heart produces a much stronger electromagnetic field than the brain. Actually, they found that theres more information going from the heart to the brain than the opposite. They also identified neurones in the heart and even concluded that the heart is also a brain capable of storing memory.

In other words, the heart is what drives your whole body, so when its beating in a coherent way, your whole physiology and mind are working at the best of their capacities. This is where Self Healing happens.

Previously believed impossible by science, yogis have known how to consciously influence their heart for thousands of years. It all stars with Breathwork.

If the Heart drives the body, breathing influences the heart. In other words, through conscious breathing you can influence your heart, make sure it beats in Coherence and thus consciously tell your own body to enter Self Healing.

The technique to reach heart coherence is very easy, but dont be fooled by its simplicity. A lot of research has gone into this topic and this is science verified. Also, the ancient discipline of Pranayama favours this technique as a a form of reaching self healing, so the technique youre about to learn is both backed by modern science and ancient wisdom.

Heres a song designed specifically for this purpose. As you listen to it, you will hear someone breathing. Try to match it and notice how fast you will feel more relaxed. Enjoy the visuals too if you want. This is a Hypno Fractal designed to take your brain to really high states of vibration.

If youre following the steps (breathing from the belly and doing long inhales and exhales) then you might feel very relaxed and alert. A few minutes of that will trigger Self Healing.

***Note: The Renegade Pharmacist has put together a webinar that you can attend for free. This will make sure youre doing this breathing properly. Although simple, theres a bit of technique behind so make sure youre doing it right.

This breathing is a good start. However, you might need to tackle a more urgent matter. Heres the secret element that helped The Renegade Pharmacist heal super fast, along with the meditation and the breathwork. Its called Colostrum. You can learn all about it here, it might be the answer you need.

So after heart coherence and Colostrum, theres a technique that will super charge you.Holistic Medicine taken to the next level.

This technique is so powerful that it should be approached with care and proper training. It comes from the ancient wisdom of Pranayama and it has a ton of amazing benefits that have been studied scientifically for decades.

The original name of the technique is Kumbhaka which literally means the pause between inhale and exhale.

Through this breathing technique, we can reach a state of Intermittent Hypoxia. Check out this article on Intermittent Hypoxic Training to learn more in detail how it works and the benefits.

Now, heres how immortality could actually be explained:

Intermittent Hypoxia is reached by lowering the Oxygen levels in our body. When you hold your breath in a specific way, the oxygen level drops for a brief period of time. You can learn all about how to do it here.

Stem cells are blank cells that have the capacity to transform themselves into any cell the body might need. These cells can only exist in an environment of LOW oxygen, which is why they hide in our bone marrow, surrounded by other cells that dilute the concentration of O2.

All our bones have dormant Stem Cells, which means our bodies are filled with them. When we lower our oxygen levels enough, this encourages the stem cells to come out of hiding and then they can enter the blood stream. Since the blood takes about 1 minute to do a full body cycle, the stem cells have enough time to go wherever they are needed.

This is how immortality could be explained.

The steps are simple. Whatever your condition, heres how to self heal:

This is easier said than done, but with proper guidance, you wont believe how much faster you can heal. It will take all of your will power to be positive and truly feel relaxed, peaceful and joyful in a challenging moment, but with proper training and discipline, it can definitely be done.

Many have cured chronic and psychological conditions previously believed to be incurable. Many others have simply stoped taking their medication and thanks to Holistic Medicine were able to manage their symptoms and conditions naturally.

After Niraj Naik cured himself with Colostrum and Breathing Meditation Techniques, he created a system to help others. Almost a decade later, after having heal thousands of people around the world he has now made the system available to anyone. Its called SOMA Breath.

Join this webinar. Its free and it will make sure youre doing the breathing techniques properly. These are the same breathing techniques for Heart Coherence (Self Healing) and Intermittent Hypoxic Training (Natural Stem Cell Therapy). Done the right way will accelerate your healing tremendously.

By the way, if you would like to interact with others that have gone through the SOMA courses, you can join the public facebook group. Ask any questions and receive answers from many different perspectives, plus you will get to read all the amazing testimonials.

Much Love!

5 Kinds of Complementary and Alternative Medicine

Posted: at 9:41 am

Complementary and alternative medicine comes in a broad range of forms. Here's a look at five widely practiced types of complementary and alternative medicine:

According to the National Center for Complementary and Integrative Health (NCCIH), the most commonly used complementary medicine approaches in the U.S. fall into one of two subgroups: natural products or mind-body practices.

In the 2012 National Health Interview Survey (or NHIS, a report conducted by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention's National Center for Health Statistics), researchers determined that 17.7 percent of American adults had used a dietary supplement other than vitamins and minerals in the past year. The most commonly used natural product was fish oil, an omega-3-rich substance said to protect against conditions such as heart disease.

The second category of most commonly practiced complementary medicine approaches, according to the NCCIH, mind-body therapies typically involve using specific techniques to boost the mind's capacity to influence bodily function and enhance health.

Hypnotherapy is a popular type of mind-body therapy. Also known as hypnosis, it's been found to promote weight loss, alleviate back pain, and aid in smoking cessation in some scientific studies.

A self-directed practice long used to promote calm, meditation is a mind-body therapy that shows promise as an approach to achieving healthier blood pressure and sounder sleep. There's also some evidence that meditation may benefit people struggling with chronic pain.

Although yoga is often practiced as a form of exercise and a means of reducing stress, it's also used as a mind-body therapy. Indeed, some research indicates that yoga may help manage conditions like anxiety, insomnia, migraines, and depression.

The NCCIH notes that yoga's popularity has significantly increased in recent years, with almost twice as many U.S. adults practicing yoga in 2012 as in 2002.

Many proponents of complementary and alternative medicine use therapies and healing practices from alternative medical systems, such as homeopathy and naturopathic medicine.

Alternative medical systems also include traditional medical systems from other countries, such as Ayurveda (a form of alternative medicine that originated in India) and traditional Chinese medicine (TCM). Within TCM are a number of therapies frequently used in the U.S. today, including acupuncture, acupressure, and herbal medicine.

This type of complementary and alternative medicine is based on manipulation and/or movement of one or more parts of the body.

In some cases, manipulative and body-based methods involve participating in classes or individual sessions with the aim of changing your movement habits. For example, the Alexander Techniqueinvolves relearning basic movements (such as standing and sitting) in order to reduce muscle tension, while the Feldenkrais Method involves creating new patterns of movement in order to improve physical function and overall wellbeing.

Other types of manipulative and body-based methods used in complementary and alternative medicine focus on applying specific treatments to address health issues. These methods include reflexology, osteopathy, and rolfing.

Another type of complementary and alternative medicine, energy therapies are generally based on the idea that energy fields surround and penetrate the human body. Practitioners of energy therapies often aim to manipulate biofields by applying pressure and/or placing the hands in or through these energy fields.

While the existence of such energy fields has not been scientifically proven, there's some evidence that certain energy therapies may have beneficial effects.

For instance, preliminary research has shown that practicing qigongmay help control chronic pain and lower blood pressure while Therapeutic Touch may help soothe osteoarthritis pain. In addition, there's some evidence that Reiki may help lessen pain, promote healthy sleep, and reduce anxiety.

5 Steps to Becoming a Holistic Health Practitioner – Learn.org

Posted: October 2, 2019 at 9:46 am

What Is a Holistic Health Practitioner?

Holistic health practitioners, also known as holistic healers or holistic doctors, are health professionals who treat patients by addressing the individual's physical, mental, and spiritual ailments. Holistic health practitioners have a more integrated approach to the treatment of illness and disease than traditional Western medicine, focusing on the use of herbs, nutrition, and healthful practices in order to maintain and treat wellness problems.

Holistic health practitioners are responsible for combining different alternative health remedies to help cure or lessen problems a patient may be experiencing. Some of these alternative approaches to healthcare include yoga, Chinese medicine, reflexology, and acupuncture. Holistic healthcare professionals also emphasize mental health, focusing on it as much as they do on a patient's physical health.

Source: * U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS)

Salaries for holistic health practitioners will vary based on location, years of experience, specialty, and place of work. Individuals working as health diagnosing and treating practitioners made a median salary of $73,960 as of May 2018, while holistic health practitioners who primarily worked in massage therapy made $41,420, according to the BLS.

There are several steps to becoming a holistic healer:

To become a holistic health practitioner, you should first learn more about what a holistic health practitioner career entails. Holistic health practitioners integrate conventional and alternative medicine to treat the whole person. In this career, you may evaluate a patient's emotional, environmental, physical, and spiritual well-being to determine the best treatment option. You may take a hands-on approach by providing treatment using acupuncture or massage therapy or by offering nutritional counseling, stress management techniques, and guided imagery to influence positive lifestyle changes that can help eliminate or reduce ailments.

Holistic health practitioners typically need to complete at least a training program to work in the field. Depending on the types of treatment you desire to provide, you may need to complete an undergraduate or graduate degree program. Some professionals in the field are also nurses or physicians, which requires state licensure and board certification.

The holistic healthcare field offers diverse career opportunities. You may choose to provide services in a specific area, such as neuropathy, nutrition, or acupuncture. In order to select a training program that best suits your interest, you must first decide what area of study to pursue. You may find schools offering holistic health programs on the American Holistic Health Association website.

You have many choices if you are looking for holistic health programs, including holistic health certificates and holistic health practitioner degree programs at the bachelor's and master's levels. Options include:

Those who don't want to get a degree specifically for holistic health can take courses to earn a Certificate in Holistic Health or a minor in holistic health in conjunction with a degree. Some schools may require completion of prerequisite classes on such subjects as human anatomy and physiology prior to being accepted into a certificate program.

For those who want a degree program focused on holistic health, there are bachelor's degrees and master's degree options. A Bachelor of Art in Complementary and Alternative Health or a Master of Arts in Holistic Studies program can teach you a broad range of holistic health practices, such as energy medicine, homeopathy, and reflexology.

Future holistic health practitioners who want to focus on a specific form of treatment, such as Asian alternative medicine, may want to earn a Bachelor of Health Science in Asian Holistic Care and Massage or a Master of Science in Traditional Oriental Medicine.

There are several holistic health certifications that might be of interest to an aspiring holistic healer. Two major national bodies that offer certifications include:

What is Holistic Nursing – How to Become a Holistic Nurse …

What Is Holistic Nursing?

Holistic Nursing refers to a kind of nursing practice which focuses on treating the patient as a whole as opposed to merely treating the symptoms of their present condition. A holistic nurse, also called a complementary health nurse, is a board certified RN who takes a mind-body-spirit-emotion approach to the practice of traditional nursing. Holistic nurses often employ alternative forms of medicine alongside traditional Western medicine in their practice. This may include dietary advice, acupuncture, therapeutic massage, and meditation therapy. Those practicing holistic nursing often will encourage patients to integrate self-care, self-responsibility, spirituality, and reflection into their lives so as to help maintain a proper balance of mind, body, and spirit.

Like RNs, holistic nurses must attend college or university to obtain their BSN or ADN. After obtaining a BSN or ADN, nurses are subsequently eligible to sit for their state's NCLEX-RN examination. Holistic nurses, like RNs, are required to pass the National Council Licensure Examination (NCLEX-RN) before they are permitted to work. Both a BSN and ADN can lead to entry-level nursing positions; however, the majority of employers will favor candidates that have earned their bachelor's degree. Although it isn't explicitly required to become a holistic nurse, some RNs who wish to advance in the holistic nursing field will choose to enroll in master's programs with concentrations that focus on holistic nursing. These degrees often will lead to higher paying positions.

Upon passing the NCLEX-RN, RNs can apply for certification in holistic nursing through the American Holistic Nurses Certification Corporation. To be eligible for certification, RNs are required to show proof of continuing education in holistic nursing and must complete and pass both a qualitative assessment and quantitative exam to earn certification.

A significant portion of practicing holistic nurses work in private practice establishments, birthing centers, or even privately out of patients' homes. Some are even found in a traditional hospital setting, however. Since there are many alternative methods and techniques of medical practice that are used in this field of nursing, holistic nurses do not always require the same kinds of equipment that traditional nurses must have. This allows them increased access to work through other venues, venues that traditional registered nurses usually wouldn't be authorized to use.

Holistic nurses use a combination of Eastern and Western medicine to treat patients and teach their communities about wellness and preventative health care. For a holistic nurse, the health of a human being entails more than just their physical well-being., True wellness in a person will encompass not only physical health, but psychological, emotional, spiritual, and social health as well. As clinicians, it is the duty of the holistic nurse to provide a high standard of holistic care for their patients so as to help them maintain full spectrum health.

Some common techniques and therapies used by holistic nurses:

Almost all holistic nurses are also registered nurses (RN). Subsequently, they will have salaries similar to that of RNs. Thus, depending on their location, holistic nurses will earn between $45,695 and $86,471 annually. The median annual salary earned by all RNs in 2015 was $67,490. Other factors like individual experience and size of employing company will play a role in determining a holistic nurse's salary. In the United States, the holistic nursing profession is expected to have the same growth as traditional registered nurses and is projected to grow by 16% by 2024.
