Technology to monitor your health and fitness during social isolation lockdown – Mighty Gadget

Thankfully we are still allowed outside during our lockdown; the same can't be said over in India with 1.3 Billion people not allowed to leave their house in complete lockdown.

I have been trying to make the most of the time we are allowed outside, walking, cycling and running by myself keeping a wide berth from anyone I pass. It would seem most people are doing the same, I have never seen so many cyclists and dogs being walked.

While I did not experience large groups, I did see several people quite close together that I doubt live together. Therefore, I suspect that the overall number of people outside will lead to a complete lockdown at some point, certainly in some cities.

Many people have taken their exercise inside, dozens if not hundreds of YouTube channels are offering online exercise classes which is a marvellous idea, keeping us fit during these trying times. The Body Coach has proven to be a particularly popular option with his P.E with Jo videos.

With us in this for the long haul, monitoring your overall health is a wise idea, and the fitter you are the better your body will cope in the unfortunate events of catching Covid-19.

High blood pressure is one of the Covid-19 risk factors, it is also bad for you in general and correlates to an overall lack of fitness.

I think semi-regularly monitoring your blood pressure is a good idea for everyone, it is cheap and quite easy to do.

I would generally stick to reputable names in this industry, though it probably doesn't matter that much if you are relatively healthy in the first place.

The Omron Basic M2 is very affordable at around 24, it is an upper arm monitor which I find to be the easiest to get consistent results from.

Being a tech blog, it would be remiss for me not to mention smart health tech. While these devices are a luxury and absolutely not a requirement, they are good for long term tracking allowing you to see a trend in your blood pressure. Many of them are designed for multi-users too.

Withings BPM Connect 89.95 If you have a Withings scale or sleep mat, then this is a great complementary investment.

Omron Evolve All-In-One 98.81 Upper arm device that syncs with your phone, this is all in one so there are no long tubes with an arm wrap and device separately. This would be good for carrying around with you, not that we can do that at the moment.

Braun iCheck 7 45.00 I have reviewed the iCheck 7, it is small and a wrist-based device so convenient to travel with and do out and about, but I find getting consistent results from your wrist harder than your upper arm as you need to place the wrist at heart level. Though this does have a handy built in guide making it easier.

Many fitness experts will advise not to worry about your scales as your weight does not correlate to your fitness and depending on water retention and previous meals, your weight fluctuates a lot.

That being said, weighing yourself a couple of times a week is not a bad idea, just to make sure you are not gaining too much weight during isolation. If you already have a moderately healthy weight, it won't be the end of the world to gain a little at the moment, but overweight or obese people should probably try and limit what they gain as this can and will affect your blood pressure.

A cheap pair of mechanical will work fine, such as the Salter scales for 9.99.

However, again, being a tech blog, I love smart scales, tracking your weight over the course of months or years is much easier.

Personally, the only brand I would go for is Withings, the cheapest Body just does weight and is quite affordable at 59.95.

The Withings Body+ costs 90 and measures fat, water, and muscle mass via electrical impedance. It is what I use, but electrical impedance for measure fat and muscle is highly inaccurate and not something you should stress about

Finally, there is the Withings Body Cardio this claims to measure your cardiovascular health via pulse wave velocity and heart rate. I have not used it, but I suspect they just measure your cardiovascular health based on the heart rate it picks up.

There are Bluetooth based scales too, which are often quite a bit cheaper, these are OK but you then need to sync your phone to the scale, and I can never be bothered. Withings go everything over Wi-Fi.

I love fitness watches and the data you get back from them. At the extreme end of the scale is the Garmin Fenix 6 series which will give an unrivalled amount of data but will also cost you over 500.

On the other end of the spectrum is the Honor Band 5, which is just 25 and will track steps, daily calories, sleep and blood oxygen levels. For people casually into fitness or wanting to monitor their activities temporarily during isolation, I can't think of a better buy.

Alternatively, sitting between the two of those products are the various sports and smartwatches. All of these monitors sleep as well as resting heart rate; many also give some insight into stress levels and other health markers.

The Apple watch is superb if you have an iPhone, it gives you monthly challenges motivating you to move.

Alternatively, there is the Honor Magic Watch 2 or Huawei Watch GT 2 which look great and offer some excellent fitness tracking. Neither allows you to export your data to Strava, which is a major downside for me.

Garmin also has some superb and more affordable options which are ideal for people getting into running. The Garmin Forerunner 45 is 149.00 or Wiggle has the excellent Garmin Forerunner 245 for 204.99.

Sleep tracking is poor in general, sports watches and smartwatches will track sleep too, so a dedicated sleep device is not always the best buy. I actually found the Honor Band 5 and Huawei GT2 the most accurate devices for sleep tracking.

That being said, if you are going all out on your health monitoring, the Withings Sleep Mat is an excellent sleep tracker that will also monitor for sleep apnoea.

Ok, this is perhaps taking things too far in this scenario, but I am a big fan of semi-regular blood testing to monitor your health markers. I use Medichecks and one of the things you may want to check at the moment is for diabetes which is one of the high-risk factors for Covid-19.

The more expensive and thorough tests require a venous blood sample (from the vein), so I wouldn't recommend these at the moment unless you have a qualified nurse or doctor in the house. The more affordable choices only require a fingerprick sample which is easy to do yourself.

Options include:

Wyze Band goes live: $24 fitness tracker with Alexa built in – Wareable

The Wyze Band is official and the $24 fitness tracking band with Alexa built in has already gone on sale in the US.

Its got a 0.95-inch AMOLED touch screen has a 120 x 240 resolution with a 282ppi pixel density, so it should look pretty punchy. It can also be customised to have shortcuts, widgets and watch faces.

Its 5ATM water resistant (50m) although theres no word on whether swim tracking will be a part of the mix.

Theres also a heart rate monitor too but again, were not sure what metrics are tracked, and how theyre presented.

The Wyze Band also has a run tracking mode although theres no GPS and its not clear how exactly this would be recorded. We assume from a paired smartphone, but it could be an estimation of distance from the accelerometer.

One of the features Wyze is shouting about is the ability to control Wyze devices from the wrist. That means if you have a bulb or camera you can turn them on and off straight from the wrist using shortcuts on the homescreen. Niche we feel but sure it will appeal to some.

For the uninitiated, Wyze has been churning out budget smart home devices since 2017, and has launched cameras, bulbs and door locks from as little as $37. The company was founded by former Amazon product people.

As youd expect from a company so close to Amazon, theres Alexa built in. However, we still dont really have details on what level of integration there is. Its push to wake by holding the home button, and you can ask things like the weather, or set alarms and reminders. However, there doesnt look to be a speaker inside, so Alexa cant answer questions or reply to you with information. This is very much along the lines of the Fitbit Versa 2.

Battery life looks great, with 10-14 days promised. And that price is even better $24 is a steal.

The company also launched a smart scale the Wyze Scale is a body composition scale that will track weight, body fat, heart rate and other metrics. It works with Apple Health, Google Fit and even Fitbit, so you can use your weight data with other (better) services. And its just $19.99.

Were waiting for review units before making any calls but its hard to argue with the price here. The value of the scale and how it connects to other services seems like a no-brainer but the fitness tracker is more complex.

Its not just got to prove comfortable and trustworthy in terms of accuracy but also in how personal data is stored and presented. Between 2012 and 2018 scores of fitness trackers came and went why should someone say $25 for a Wyze with no proven ecosystem when the Samsung Galaxy Fit e is just $10 more? Watch this space.

United States of America Snowboard and Freeski Association says its longevity is in jeopardy – Summit Daily News

DILLON The United States of America Snowboard and Freeski Association announced earlier this week that the longevity of the nonprofit is in potential jeopardy after the cancellation of this years USASA Nationals at Copper Mountain Resort due to the new coronavirus pandemic.

In a post announcing an online auction to support the association, USASA officials wrote that the national championships at Copper serve as a key revenue source for the nonprofit while also driving over $2.5 million in economic impact to the communities in Summit County.

Your contribution will help secure the future of the USASA during this difficult time, the post said.

USASA annually hosts more than 500 events nationwide at more than 100 resorts and has more than 5,000 members. The organization is regarded as the largest snowboard and freeski community in the world and for decades has served as a step for many of the best young skiers and snowboarders to advance their careers.

USASA Nationals is the largest snowboarding and freeskiing competition in the world and had been held annually at Copper Mountain for more than 10 years. Each year, it attracted to Summit County upward of 2,000 athletes and accompanying family and friends from 31 regional divisions nationwide. Nationals includes snowboard and freeski competitions in halfpipe, cross, slopestyle and Alpine disciplines across 12 days of action. This year, nationals was scheduled for March 27 through April 8.

Asi Taulava on his 4th decade in the PBA: "That’s longevity right there" – ABS-CBN News

"That's awesome. That's longevity right there," Taulava told his writer on his basketball career that has now spanned four separate decades.

When the PBA season comes back after COVID-19 is beaten and the enhanced community quanratine in Luzon is lifted, Asi Taulava will suit up for his fourth decade in basketball, the first man to do so in league history.

After making his pro debut in the 1990s, Asi dominated and won his one PBA title and MVP in the 2000s.

In the 2010s, he reivented himself and won a titleand MVP in the ABL before making his way back to the PBA.

As we head to the 2020s, Asi is still going strong with NLEX, preparing for his last few runs with the Road Warriors.

The new season is the 21st for the 47-year-old Taulava.

"That's awesome. That's longevity right there," Taulava told his writer on his basketball career that has now spanned four separate decades.

"Especially for me, my captain was Bong, Bong Ravs [Bong Ravena]. And now I'm playing with Kief [Kiefer Ravena, Bong's first-born son]. I hope that when I hang my sneakers, it can be the same way when I won my first and only championship with kuya Bong, I can win another one with Kief and hang it up," he added.

Speaking of retirement, while there were previous reports that he's going to retire after the 2020 Philippine Cup, Taulava says he hasn't arrived at that decision 100 percent just yet.

True enough, Asi is yet to make a formal announcement about hanging it up.

However, his final say will depend on how the All-Filipino goes.

"When I announce when I'm planning to retire, I'm gonna announce with coach Yeng and my management. My NLEX family, they've been sp great, taking good care of me for the past few years," Taulava said.

"I'm keeping it secret. I'm holding all my cards tight to me. It all depends what happens this conference coming up [Philippine Cup," Asi added.

The COVID-19 pandemic has already caused several thousand deaths, widespread health problems, massive anxiety and economic losses.

Most people are concerned with what happens day by day as we wait for control measures to work.

But we should also be concerned about whether or not we will be living with the virus for a long time. Will we be able to eradicate COVID-19, as we did with Sars? Or will we need to learn to live with it like we do with the common cold? We have been experiencing epidemics and pandemics for centuries, so there are lessons we can draw from these examples.

The virus in the long run

To understand what happens to the virus in the long term, we need to look at how large epidemics work, starting with patient zero.

If there is significant human-to-human transmission, the virus begins to spread, causing a fast increase in the number of cases (illustrated in the figure below). At the same time, those who overcome the disease and develop resistance are henceforth immune, at least for a while.

The people who are newly infected will increasingly have contact with these immune people, rather than with those who have not yet had the disease. This process effectively protects the susceptible population and causes the initial fast growth to slow and eventually stop.

The level of immunity

The level of herd immunity needed to stop the spread depends on both the number of contacts an average person has and how infectious the disease is. If highly contagious, this can be as much as 95%. This protection can be achieved by a combination of reducing infectiousness through immunity, either natural or acquired, or vaccination, or by reducing transmission.

Quarantine and mass restrictions on travel have proved effective, as shown in China, where the number of COVID-19 infections outside of Hubei province, where it started, have been few.

What happens next depends on the disease characteristics and human actions.

The 1918 flu virus did not persist after the early 1920s probably because enough people became immune to it. However, many pathogens are difficult to eradicate globally, although local success is possible. For example, foot-and-mouth disease, which affects sheep and livestock, survives in many countries.

The outbreak in the UK in 2001 was reduced to local islands of infection by an animal movement ban and then eradicated by massive culling.

But it took a long time and high costs to finally bring it to an end (figure below). Like many countries, the UK now has strict rules of animal imports, aimed at stopping the disease from arriving again.

Vaccine for coronavirus

It is possible that we will eradicate COVID-19 in selected countries or regions, but not necessarily worldwide. Although there are hopes that a vaccine will be successful within the next year, this is not certain. If it happens, very stringent travel checks may need to be imposed for at least a substantial time such a restriction, added on to concerns of the impact of air travel on climate change, may mean that the tourism industry may never recover.

Some diseases prove impossible to eradicate even in the long term and will persist following the first outbreak (figure below).

Diseases originating in Europe and Africa were brought to North America for the first time in the late 1400s and early 1500s. Encountering a population with little immunity, smallpox and other diseases spread rapidly causing the collapse of indigenous communities.

Subsequent outbreaks were lower, but smallpox and measles persisted until the 20th century.

Seasonal ailments

In temperate climates, seasonal influenza spreads rapidly through winter but mostly dies out in summer, only to come back the following year. In between outbreaks, the flu virus survives in Asia from where it emerges every year.

Large measles epidemics, before vaccines were available, occurred every two or three years, interspersed with small outbreaks (figure below).

The recurring pattern was caused by people being born all the time without vaccine protection.

Next winter, when children went back to school, there were enough susceptible ones to create a large outbreak. With mass vaccination of children, this influx was slowed down enough to create herd immunity and almost eradicate the disease.

However, measles is returning because vaccination levels are falling below the herd-immunity threshold.

The future of Covid-19

So what is the future of COVID-2019? While we cannot be sure, mathematical models help us explore scenarios and identify potential outcomes, building on our experience of past outbreaks.

The governments are hoping that a combination of social distancing, border closures, isolation of cases, testing and increasing immunity in the population will slow down the spread of the coronavirus and will hopefully open up successful eradication strategies.

Yet, past experiences suggest that we may need to learn to live with the coronavirus for years to come.

The Health Toll Of Reckless Financial Policies – Seeking Alpha

A study published in the Journal of the American Medical Association in 2018 found that a sudden loss of wealthnegative wealth shockcan trigger health problems and reduce longevity.

With limited years remaining to regain losses in older age, researchers noted that the health consequences of such shocks can be long-lasting. The effect was most marked if a person lost a home, and more pronounced for people with fewer assets, but wealth shocks crossed socio-economic lines, affecting people regardless of how much money they had to start with. This was a US-based study but lead researcher Lindsay Pool of Northwestern University medical school added: This is really a story about everybody North or south of the border, were all in equal danger.

According to Dr. Alan Garber of Harvard University in an accompanying editorial, the findings suggest a wealth shock is as dangerous as a new diagnosis of heart disease. He also noted that doctors need to recognize how money hardships may affect their patients.

Other researchers who study the relationship between economics and health noted the strength of the association between a big financial setback and mortality. The magnitude of it is quite remarkable, says Ellen Meara, a professor of health policy at the Dartmouth Institute. If its losing the wealth thats causing it, I think we want to ask ourselves: Is there any way to protect people against that kind of a shock? (See: Losing your nest egg is hazardous to your health).

Central bankers and financial firms encouraging nest eggs into risky assets at high valuations should note the real-life consequences here. Unfortunately, most continue to put short-term theories and profit hopes ahead of the longer-term best interests of customers, workers, retirees and the economy. Individual savers are prone to follow along without appreciating the prospects for lasting harm. As Raghuram Rajan, said in February 2019:

Capitalism works when many people have a chance at doing reasonably in the market. We wasted ten years since the financial crisis not really focusing on these things and hoping that one stimulus after another will somehow elevate growth.

Speaking last March, ex-FOMC head Janet Yellen admitted that central banks dont have enough bullets left in their policy guns to combat increasing financial stress. Some have suggested the US Fed may resort to directly buying corporate bonds and equities in this downturn to try and reflate prices. Increasingly desperate ploys seem to be the dominant ideas today.

None of this was of necessity but rather the product of specific policy choiceschoices to unduly enrich few at the expense of the many. Such episodes have been recurring in history and have always been followed by periods of wealth redistribution via higher taxation, asset repricing, social transfers, conflict and sometimes force. All are underway now.

Where debt was created over the past two decades to invest in innovation and things that help to strengthen households and the economy, there will be lasting benefits. But the majority of debt created has been to enable households to buy over-priced assets and depreciating consumer goods, and for companies to meet short-sighted financial ends like share buy-backs, mega-mergers and increased executive compensation. Now we are ten years older and the masses are less financially secure than they were a decade ago.

Debt payments (at historically low interest rates) are consuming 15% of Canadian household incomethe highest everwith just 6% of respondents saying that saving for retirement was a priority (CIBC study). According to Statistics Canadas latest data, the median net worth of Canadian families was $295,100 in 2016. Most were hoping that building equity in homes would somehow offset other savings voids.

Asset owners over the age of 50 hold the bulk of the paper wealth in the world. But the corollary of high prices is low yields, and so most are income-poor heading into retirement. To raise cash, they need to sell their assets to financially-capable, willing buyers this will require lower prices.

The classic definition of savings is present consumption denied, but theres more to it. Savings are a reflection of personal discipline in both the degree to which spending is less than income and the care afforded capital once amassed.

Our savings self-insure against interruptions or reductions in income and provide funds for critical investments like infrastructure, education, life-enrichment, care of ourselves and our community, innovation and invention. Savings are stored energy from which all good things can be powered. But over the last 30 years, central banks and governments have increasingly directed policies and incentives that favour debt over savers and savings. This went to such extremes that the masses are now drowning in debt (negative-savings) and in some countries, savers are paying borrowers to take their funds. In the process, financial discipline and social stability have been greatly undermined and we must change course.

Only higher interest rates, tighter lending, insolvencies, break-ups, restructuring, write-offs and financial pain where its deserved can put the global economy on more stable footings. Durable economic strength cannot be achieved by further emaciating the massesand especially not the young who are needed to carry the social costs of their elders. Resilience can only increase when a healthy share of current consumption and short-term profits are denied in favour of savings and investment for the future.

Net worth is preserved in secure assets with reliable income streams and by eschewing debt for personal consumption. We understood this during war times where workers, savers and governments worked together for mutual benefit. From here, a brighter future requires a focus on prudence, rather than speculation and gambling. The payoff will be wider compound benefits and resource sharing with less waste.

We see much upside to be gained in this necessaryalbeit painfulprocess. The asset price declines needed to reboot the system, seem to be finally underway now. Our aim remains to steer clear by holding the lower-risk, most liquid assets to which others move as risky markets deflate. Why we need to restrict calories right now – Big Think

Finding kale and quinoa has never been easier than it is right now. Oreos and Spam, not so much.

We know about the toilet paper and hand sanitizer shortages. There are other problems. I've visited at least five grocers in the last week in my Los Angeles neighborhood, and the processed foods shelves are empty.

That problem is not only occurring here. Food giants like General Mills and Campbell Soup are experiencing sales gains between 10-20 percent. Popcorn, pretzels, and potato chips are even higher, between 30-48 sales increases over this time last year.

This is not the direction we should be moving in during a pandemicor ever, but especially right now.

First, we must differentiate between processed foods and packaged goods. The latter is understandable: beans, pasta, rice, saucesthese too have been filling carts. The issue is "comfort foods," processed and packaged foodstuffs high in sugars and emulsifiers, which are selling at an even higher rate. At a time when we need our immune systems to be as healthy as possible, diet has never mattered more.

Emotional eating during such an unprecedented time is understandable, expectable even. We gravitate toward sugar- and carb-heavy foods when stressed. But for the sake of not only your health, but our overtaxed health care system, we all need to think more deeply about what we're putting into our bodies.

I've covered health for Big Think since 2012 and have read hundreds of studies concerning diet and fitness. Time and again, two methods appear to work best: closing your feeding window and calorie restriction. The former is usually packaged with the title "intermittent fasting," but really it's just about not eating from the moment you wake up until right before bed. Restricting your feeding window to 10 hours a day or less seems to bestow the greatest benefits; even 12 hours is beneficial. The majority of Americans eat over the course of 14 hours per day.

Calorie restriction is usually associated with the Singularity set as an anti-aging protocol, but don't be dissuaded by that crowd. Plenty of research has backed up the health benefits of reducing your caloric load. A new study from a team of collaborators from the US and China discusses why that is.

Published in the journal Cell, a team at Salk Institute's Gene Expression Laboratory in La Jolla (along with former Salk alumni now based in China) tested 56 rats over the course of nine months, age 18 months to 27 months. For comparison sake, that is the equivalent of tracking human diets from age 50 to 70.

The parameters are pretty simple: one group was given one caloric load, while the other was fed 30 percent fewer calories. The team then analyzed 168,703 cells from 40 different cell types, including cells from bone marrow, skin, brain, and muscle tissue.

Cells from rats on the calorie-restricted diet resembled young rats by the end of the study. A total of 57 percent of the aging changes in the non-restricted rats were not prevalent in the dieting group. Co-corresponding author Guang-Hui Liu (at the Chinese Academy of Sciences) breaks it down:

"This approach not only told us the effect of calorie restriction on these cell types, but also provided the most complete and detailed study of what happens at a single-cell level during aging."

The cells most affected by higher calorie intake include those linked to lipid metabolism as well as immunity and inflammation response. In fact, inflammation kept increasing in rat bingers. Chronic inflammation is one of the biggest consequences of the "Western diet," which negatively impacts a range of cancers and metabolic and cardiovascular diseases.

Even more urgent at this moment are the cytokine storms caused by COVID-19. While the virus is hitting elderly and immune-suppressed populations hardest, victims of every age group are experiencing this deadly inflammatory response. Whether or not diet is specifically related to COVID-19 is unknown, but we do know that two consequences of obesity are immune problems and inflammation. If you prime your body by eating foods that promote inflammation, you're going to have trouble fighting off disease.

Juan Carlos Izpisua Belmonte, also a co-corresponding author on this paper, is hopeful that this research will open up new avenues of treatment.

"We already knew that calorie restriction increases life span, but now we've shown all the changes that occur at a single-cell level to cause that. This gives us targets that we may eventually be able to act on with drugs to treat aging in humans."

Never in history has it been so apparent that we're all in this together. Social media keeps us dialed in for constant updates. If a greater emphasis on our health care system (as well as individual health) is an outcome of this pandemic, we can at least chalk that up as one small victory.

Right now, of course, we need to focus on the most vulnerable populations. While we live through this, however, don't put yourself at risk of being in that population. Eat smarter, and eat less.

Skeletal muscle mass and strength are important to preventing falls, fractures, and disability, yet they continue to decline during the transition into menopause. A recent study published in Menopause suggests that prolonged use of hormone therapy is associated with higher muscle mass as well as decreasing the odds for sarcopenia.

Sarcopenia is described as a loss of skeletal muscle mass and strength that typically affects older populations, and it increases the risks of falls, fractures, diabetes, and cardiovascular disease. It is highly prevalent among postmenopausal women but there is no evidence to support a link with decline in estrogen during transition. Several small studies have been carried out to assess the associations between muscle mass and hormone therapy but they have yielded inconsistent results.

This study involved over 4,200 postmenopausal women, and is one of few large scale studies to assess the link between muscle loss in this group of women and hormone therapy focusing on the duration of hormone therapy use and the effects on muscle mass and the prevalence of sarcopenia. Based on their findings the researchers concluded that prolonged use of hormone therapy is associated with higher muscle mass and a lower prevalence of sarcopenia in postmenopausal women.

"Although not all studies examining an association between hormone therapy and muscle mass have shown positive results, this large cross-sectional study demonstrated a relationship between extended use of hormone therapy and both greater muscle mass and lower risk of sarcopenia in women aged younger than 65 years and with a body mass index less than 25 kg/m2," says Dr. Stephanie Faubion, NAMS medical director. "The mechanism by which estrogen protects muscle mass remains unclear, and additional study is needed."

Net revenues (in thousands)

Net revenues for the year ended December 31, 2019 increased $672 to $1,032, or 187%, compared to net sales of $360 for the year ended December 31, 2018 primarily due to an increase in net revenues of $600 for our Yolked and Myos Canine Muscle Formula (Myos Canine) products in 2019 and an increase in our white label sales of $221 offset by a decrease in net revenue from our old products of $149.

Cost of revenues

Cost of revenues for the year ended December 31, 2019 increased $149, or 60%, compared to cost of revenues for the year ended December 31, 2018 primarily due to an increase of $179 in manufacturing costs associated with making new products.

Operating expenses

Sales, marketing and research expenses for the year ended December 31, 2019 increased $382 or 43%, compared to the year ended December 31, 2018 primarily due to an increase in sales and marketing costs associated with the development and launch of our new products.

Personnel and benefits expenses for the year ended December 31, 2019 increased $179 or 10%, compared to the year ended December 31, 2018 due to the hiring of additional sales staff

General and administrative expenses for the year ended December 31, 2019 decreased $149, or 8%, compared to the year ended December 31, 2018 due to a decrease in professional fees.

Liquidity and Capital Resources

At December 31, 2019, we had cash of $64 an increase of $49 compared to December 31, 2018. This was primarily due to $2,416 of net proceeds received from financing activities, which included proceeds of $1,850 from issuance of common stock, $211 from a registered direct offering and $355 from drawdown on the related party promissory note.
