Bradley Beal out after guarding Jayson Tatum due to NBA health protocols – MassLive.com

On Friday night, the showdown between Jayson Tatum and Bradley Beal in the Celtics-Wizards game was an entertaining matchup of two alumni of St. Louis Chaminade College Preparatory School at TD Garden.

Beal scored 61 points and Tatum had 32 in the Celtics 116-107 win. But by Saturday the matchup had health implications as Beal was held out of Washingtons home game against the Heat.

According to Mark Murphy of the Boston Herald, Tatum tested positive for COVID-19 Saturday and was waiting for a confirmation test. Shams Charania of the Athletic and Stadium reported Tatum was already in quarantine.

Beal and Tatum had a conversation in close proximity after the game and the duo spent much of Friday night closely guarding each other putting Beal was at increased risk of infection.

Charania tweeted:

Wizards star Bradley Beal is out for tonight vs. Miami due to health and safety protocols and contact tracing exposure to Jayson Tatum, sources tell @TheAthleticNBA @Stadium.

This is part of health and safety protocols investigating potential exposure that occurred when Bradley Beal and Jayson Tatum were speaking in close proximity on the court postgame Friday night, sources said.

Health and safety protocols is how the NBA designates anything related to COVID-19 on its injury report.

Tatum is one of four Celtics, including Jaylen Brown, whose participation in Sundays game is in question leaving Boston with a potentially thin roster when they play the Heat. Three Celtics big men Robert Williams, Grant Williams and Tristan Thompson are already in quarantine due to NBA health and safety protocols.
