Feel the burn: Outdoor fitness court opening in St. Lucie County this summer – TCPalm

ST. LUCIE COUNTY Get ready to work your core, push your limits and feel the burn. An outdoor fitness court is opening here this summer.

The $190,000 project will be built byNational Fitness Campaign,a San Franciscocompanythat partners with cities, schools, corporations and design firms to fund and build outdoor fitness courts to promote a healthy lifestyle.

The 1,024-sqaure-foot court will comprise seven stations where people canwork on their agility, core and flexibility. The stationsconcrete pads overlaid with rubber matting also allow for stationary, or body weight, movements such as lunges, squats and pull-ups.

The court could be completed as early as July, county officials said.

Workouts at the court, next to the countyRegional Parks and Stadiums Division office at VirginiaAvenue and 13th Street, cancan be completed in less than seven minutes, according to National Fitness Campaign.

Other features include ADA compliance, a public art mural anda free app, Fitness Court, where people can run through their workoutswith virtual trainers.

Additionally, people will be able to socially distance on the court sincethere is at least 6x feet between stations, according to the company.

National Fitness Campaign isin more than100 cities and colleges across the nation, and bythe end of the year, there will be fitness courtsin more than 200 communities across 40 states.

This will be the first National Fitness Campaigncourt on the Treasure Coast. The St. Lucie County location was selected because of its high level of pedestrian activityand because it's along a busy roadwaywith "excellent visibility," the company's location analysis shows.

Other fitness courts could be built in the next four years atIlous Ellis Park, Savannas Campgrounds, Museum Pointe Parkand the Sheraton Plaza Recreation Area, according to county documents.
