FOR THE SANFORD HERALD

Lee County Libraries announced they are working in partnership with the North Carolina Cooperative Extension Office to offer Take Control an adult nutrition and chronic disease prevention program offered as part of the Steps to Health Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program Education (SNAP-Ed). The program will be offered virtually and is available March 8 through April 30.

Take Control provides eight hour-long sessions that will help inform, empower and motivate participants to change their eating and physical activity patterns that help improve and manage their health. The program encourages participants to track their goals and progress toward improved physical activity and healthy eating habits with each session including a basic cooking demonstration of a healthy recipe.

The online program allows participants to watch each of the eight sessions at their convenience and progress through the program at a speed that is comfortable for them. In addition to recipes and information that will help individuals control sodium, fat and added sugar intake, program participants will have an opportunity to connect with the county agent to ask questions, brainstorm solutions and receive feedback through optional weekly web-based office hours. As added incentive, participants of the program will receive a water bottle and spice jar to support the new healthy habits they learn through Take Control.

Individuals that would like to participate but do not have access to a computer may us the public computers available at Lee County Library in Sanford. Public computers are available by appointment from noon until 4 p.m. Monday through Friday.

For more information or to register for the program, contact Brittany Newman at Lee County Libraries by email at bnewman@leecountync.gov or phone at 919-718-4665 ext. 5489.
